2021 State of our Schools - State Profiles

The 21st Century School Fund has collected data and information on a generation of school facilities spending and investments across the states. Working with the National Council on School Facilities, they have developed state profiles to inform decision makers and the public about the scale of K-12 public education infrastructure. 

The expenditure data in the state profiles are from annual reports from school districts. The recommended levels for capital investment are calculated based on building industry standards modified for public school districts by state facilities officials.  

NOTE: Extreme care has been taken to ensure data accurately reflects actual state level expenditures, however, from our analysis we know that in some cases, the reported expenditures do not fully reflect the level of investments being made in a state.  In general this is the case in a handful of states where local districts have funding from the state through non-traditional entities.  Please contact us, with questions or feedback on state profiles at: info@21csf.org.
